Democrats set candidate forum

Several Democratic primary candidates for federal, state and local offices plan to attend an event at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Dole Institute of Politics.

The candidates are scheduled to give statements and take questions during the event at 2350 Petefish Drive on Kansas University’s West Campus.

Gubernatorial candidate Tom Holland, a state senator from Baldwin City, is expected to attend.

U.S. Senate candidates who plan be there are Lisa Johnston of Overland Park, an assistant dean for Student Academic Services at Baker University; Charles Schollenberger of Prairie Village, a retired journalist and communications executive; and state Sen. David Haley, of Kansas City, Kan.

Both Kansas secretary of state Democratic candidates are scheduled to be at the institute: current officeholder Chris Biggs and state Sen. Chris Steineger, of Kansas City, Kan.

Kansas House incumbents Paul Davis and Barbara Ballard, both of Lawrence, plan to attend along with Linda Robinson, a former Lawrence school board member who is challenging Republican Rep. Tom Sloan.

Douglas County Commissioner Mike Gaughan is also scheduled to attend.
