Kansas Marathon raises $52,000

More than 1,700 runners from 22 states helped raise $52,000 for Health Care Access, a medical clinic that serves uninsured Douglas County residents.

The runners took part in the 2010 Lynn Electric Kansas Marathon, which included a half marathon and 5K, on April 18 in Lawrence.

Last year’s half marathon and 5K drew 1,400 runners and raised $23,000.

“We are just thrilled. This is the best event that we’ve ever done,” said Sally Zogry, Health Care Access development director and event coordinator.

This year’s fundraiser also had 43 sponsors and 300 volunteers.

Zogry already has started planning for next year’s marathon, which will be April 17
