Emergency crews respond to apartment fire Thursday

No one reported injured

Emergency crews responded early Thursday morning to an apartment fire in the 1400 block of Apple Lane.

Douglas County emergency dispatchers received the call about 4:19 a.m.

Lawrence police and Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical units responded to the call. The person who reported the fire told dispatchers they could see smoke coming from the building.

Crews on scene confirmed flames were showing from the second level of the building.

One resident was getting up to let her dogs out when she saw the smoke. Lawrence resident and KU graduate student Sherrie Mason lives at the complex and said she was getting up to walk her dogs when she saw the smoke. She alerted one of her neighbors and they were both able to get out of the building unharmed.

Crews worked to extinguish the fire from both sides of the eight-unit apartment building.

Residents stood in the roadway with umbrellas and watched the incident unfold.

No cause or damage estimate was available early Thursday morning.

No one was reported injured during the incident.
