Topeka ? The Kansas Senate is considering a bill that attempts to revive the state’s racing industry with slot machines at tracks.

The measure being debated Friday would make slot machines more profitable for owners of the now-closed racetracks in Kansas City, Kan., and Frontenac.

That change also is being supported by operators of small tracks in Eureka and Anthony. They wouldn’t be allowed to have slot machines, but their racing is subsidized by revenues from the other tracks.

The bill also would make it easier for a developer to build a casino in southeast Kansas.

The measure faces opposition from conservative lawmakers who don’t want to expand gambling, and from developers of a state-owned casino being built in Kansas City, Kan.
