Free State freshman football meeting: The Free State High football program will be holding a meeting today for the eighth-grade students planning to play freshman football at Free State next fall. The meeting, which parents of potential players are also asked to attend, will be held at 7 p.m. in the Free State auditorium.

New Day For Horseshoes: The Lawrence Horseshoe Club is changing days for its weekly meetings from Thursday to Tuesday. The club will meet every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Broken Arrow Park.

KU Softball Clinics: Kansas University softball will conduct a clinic for girls entering grades 9-12 on June 21-24. Youth Football Camps: The Lawrence Youth Football Camp, put on by coaches and players from both Lawrence High and Free State, will be June 28-July 1 for players entering grades 3-8. It will run 8:30 a.m. to noon. Free State Youth Football Camp for linemen will be June 22-24, with the camp for quarterbacks, wide receivers and defensive backs July 6-8. Both sessions will run 9:30-11:30 a.m. Registration forms for the LHS and FSHS camps are at city elementary and junior high schools. LHS Boys Basketball Camp: Dates for the 2010 Lawrence High boys basketball summer camps have been set. An offensive-skills camp for youths entering grades 5-9 will be held June 1-3, and basketball camps for grades 3-5 and 6-8 will be held July 6-9. High school summer basketball workouts will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from June 7-July 14 and are open to boys entering grades 9-12. Track Club Meetings: The Lawrence Youth Track Club meets 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at South Junior High. The club, for youths age 8-18, runs through July. Scholarships are available.

High School Baseball Camp: The Lawrence High and Free State baseball coaching staffs will be offering a summer camp the week of June 7-10, from 9 a.m. to noon each day at Free State High. Ball Waltz: Mike Beaton, Kent Beisner, Tony Kovach and Bud Stagg took first place at the Alvamar’s Ball Waltz on May 2, with a team score of 135. The foursome won a playoff over second-place finishers Chris Anderson, Curt Anderson, Conrad Roberts and Bill Patt, who also shot 135. Bob Kocour, Drew Walters, Randy Gebhards and Les Brown finished third with a 138.

Big Sur Marathon Challenge: Mickey Woolard recently completed the Boston 2 Big Sur Marathon Challenge: two marathons, two coasts in six days.

Junior Jayhawks Rugby: The Junior Jayhawks Rugby Club defeated Olathe, 47-12, in the first round of the Kansas State Tournament. Kyle Resseguie scored three trys. Chase Billings added a try and kicked 6 conversions. The Junior Jayhawks will face Blue Valley in the semifinals at 11:15 a.m. Saturday. The championship match will be played that afternoon.

Aquahawks Swim Clinic: The Lawrence Aquahawks will hold a swimmer’s clinic from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on May 27 at the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center. All ages are welcome, and swimmers are asked to bring a suit and towel. For information, call 785 393-7966, or email Zach@aquahawks.org.
