Norman, Okla. ? The Oklahoma University softball team shut out Kansas University, 2-0, Saturday at OU.

Junior pitcher Allie Clark limited Oklahoma to just six hits, while KU’s defense stranded 13 Oklahoma runners on base, but the Jayhawks struggled offensively, managing just two hits and no runs.

With the loss, Kansas dropped to 19-31 overall, including 1-14 in the Big 12. OU improved to 38-10 and 12-3 in Big 12 games.

Clark gave up a season-high 10 walks, but KU’s defense stranded at least two Sooners in every inning as the Jayhawks came up with key plays with runners in scoring position. In the sixth inning, Kansas left fielder Maggie Hull helped complete a double play when she slid to catch a short fly ball and then made a throw to second base to catch a runner who was too slow to tag up. Senior Amanda Jobe ended the frame with a diving play to save a hit from coasting to right field.

Oklahoma scored both of its runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Sooners led off the frame with a walk and a single. One out later, a fielder’s choice to first base scored Amber Flores. A groundout at first base in the next play allowed Jessica Shults to cross home plate.

The Jayhawks and Sooners will meet again at noon today.
