Officers apprehend driver in high-speed chase on K-10

Officers have apprehended the driver involved in a high-speed chase on K-10 late Saturday night.

According to Johnson County Lt. Brian Clark, officers attempted to perform a routine traffic stop of the suspect’s vehicle near Clearview City about 10:30 p.m.

The car stopped momentarily, but when an officer approached the vehicle, the driver attempted to strike him while fleeing. Officers pursued the vehicle onto the westbound lanes of K-10.

The car traveled at speeds as high as 100 miles per hour, but eventually crashed into a ditch near the 1900 Road overpass.

Officers closed westbound traffic in the right lane of K-10 to deal with the accident.

The female driver reportedly refused to obey officers when they attempted to get her to exit the car. She was eventually taken into custody. Clark said officers could see methamphetamine and she appeared to be ingesting it.

The driver was arrested on charges of aggravated assault against a law enforcement offical, fleeing and eluding police, various traffic charges and possession of methamphetamine.

No one was harmed in the incident.
