Police determine man stepped in front of vehicle

Lawrence police on Tuesday said a 35-year-old man stepped in front of an eastbound car Friday night near Sixth and Maine streets but suffered no apparent injuries.

Police are investigating alcohol as a contributing factor to the incident, spokeswoman Kim Murphree said.

Officers were called to Sixth and Maine streets just before midnight Friday and found the 35-year-old man lying next to a telephone pole on the south side of Sixth Street.

As officers and paramedics stabilized the pedestrian for the ambulance trip to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, they determined he did not suffer any apparent injuries, Murphree said.

Police did not cite the driver of the car.
