Kansas farmers plant record soybean crop

? Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service says Kansas farmers plan to plant their biggest corn crop since 1936. Growers also are planning to put in the largest soybean planted acreage in state history.

The agency’s prospective planting report Wednesday estimates 4.7 million acres of corn would be planted in Kansas. That is up 15 percent from a year ago.

Soybean planted acreage was pegged at 4.10 million, up 11 percent from last year.

The expected sorghum acreage of 2.7 million acres is unchanged from a year ago.

More acres are going to other crops because fewer winter wheat acres were planted last fall. The wheat acreage of 8.6 million planted acres was down 8 percent from the previous year.
