Eudora City Council decision expected soon

The deadline for applications required to fill the vacant Eudora City Council seat has come and gone. As of Monday night’s deadline, four people have expressed interest in the position.

According to the city’s Charter Ordinance No. 1, “the mayor, by and with the advice of the remaining councilmen, shall appoint some suitable elector to fill the vacancy until the next election.”

It’s expected Mayor Scott Hopson will recommend a new council member to the City Council at its April 12 meeting.

Councilman Fred Stewart resigned his position in February because of health issues. Stewart was elected to the council in 2007. He had previously served as mayor from 1997 to 2001.
