Parkinson says he has no timeline for naming new Secretary of State

? Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson says he still has no timetable for naming a new secretary of state.

He told reporters Friday after a news conference that he hasn’t made a decision on who’ll replace former Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh.

The secretary of state is Kansas’ chief elections official.

Thornburgh, a four-term Republican, resigned Feb. 15 to become a senior vice president for Olathe-based NIC Inc. It builds and manages government Web sites, including Kansas’ site.

With no new secretary of state in place, Assistant Secretary of State Janet Chubb is in charge of the office.

Thornburgh decided not to seek re-election this year and abandoned a run for governor. Three Republicans and two Democrats are seeking to replace him as secretary of state.
