Douglas County judge sentences Lawrence man in attempted murder case

A Douglas County judge on Tuesday sentenced a Lawrence man to 8 1/2 years in prison for trying to kill a Kansas City man in June, prosecutors said.

James “Jimmy” McAdams, 19, in February entered pleas to charges of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated intimidation of a witness or victim, both felonies.

Lawrence police said McAdams fired shots at a 20-year-old Kansas City, Mo., man just before 2 a.m. June 19, after a robbery attempt near 24th Street and Murphy Drive, which is southeast of 23rd and Iowa streets. No injuries were reported.

Chief District Judge Robert Fairchild sentenced McAdams to 102 months in prison for the crimes. He’ll also serve an additional year in prison for violating probation in a 2008 car burglary case, prosecutors said.
