Closed juvenile center to go to community

? Kansas is preparing to transfer ownership of its former juvenile correctional facility for girls in Beloit to the city, at no cost.

The state closed the facility in August. Its average daily population had declined to 21 girls from 103 a decade earlier.

The girls are now housed at a formerly all-male facility in Topeka but are separated from the boys.

Beloit City Administrator Glenn Rodden said officials are developing plans for the property. Those could include leasing space to the school district, providing new jail space and locating a new library there.
