Another day, another offensive lineman from the Class of 2011 for the Kansas Jayhawks.

On Monday, Kansas coach Turner Gill learned that Damon Martin, of Arlington (Texas) High, had orally committed to KU. The news brings the total number of offensive linemen in the class to four, with three coming in the last four days.

For Martin, 6-foot-5, 265 pounds, the announcement came at a special time. Monday was his birthday. But the athletic lineman told Rivals.com that he was not waiting on one milestone to create another. Instead, he said the time just felt right.

Martin visited KU’s line camp last week and, like many members of the class who have committed to KU before him, was sold on the KU coaching staff.

“They all seemed like cool coaches to be around,” he told Rivals. “Every coach I talked to were some of the nicest people I have met. They all seemed to care a lot.”

Martin chose KU over offers from Arizona, Memphis, New Mexico, Tulsa, Utah and Utah State. Though he has played both tackle and guard in high school, most analysts project him to be a tackle in college.

Martin joins fellow offensive linemen Bryan Peters, Nick Johnson — both orally committed last Friday — and Travis Bodenstein, along with running back Dreamius Smith, quarterback Michael Cummings, linebacker Jake Love and defensive backs Alex Matlock, Chris Robinson and Victor Simmons on KU’s 2011 commitment list so far.

Previous reports indicated that the KU coaches have told prospects that they plan to sign five offensive linemen in the Class of 2011. Things could change, of course, but, if that holds true, there may be room for just one more in the 2011 class.
