Charges dropped against Bio Care owner

? A television station is reporting that fraud charges have been dropped against the owner of an Albuquerque business in a medical waste case.

KOB-TV says the District Attorney’s Office made the move late Monday so investigators can have more time to develop a case against Bio Care owner Paul Montano and charges could be refiled later. There was no immediate confirmation from the district attorney on the station’s story, however.

Bio Care of Albuquerque harvested parts from donated bodies to sell for medical research, then had the remains cremated to return to families.

Montano was charged in late March with three counts of fraud after some body parts found at a Kansas City medical waste plant were identified as belonging to people whose cremated remains had been given to families.
