Oskaloosa’s annual Old Settler’s Reunion begins Thursday night

An Oskaloosa tradition that’s lasted for more than a century ramps up Thursday evening.

The Old Settler’s Reunion gets underway with food booths opening at 5 p.m. Thursday, said Jennifer Thomas, a food booth organizer.

The reunion draws thousands of people to the Jefferson County town’s square, including Oskaloosa High School graduates.

The three-day event includes a carnival that will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Friday’s events include games and bands playing in the square and a midnight swim in Oskaloosa’s pool.

Saturday’s festivities stretch throughout the day, including kids’ games in the morning, a car show from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., a 6 p.m. parade and games at 7:30 p.m.
