Haskell Institute, in anticipation of a 150-student increase in the fall of 1970, began the remodeling of two buildings in order to add a total of 50 additional dormitory rooms. Supt. Wallace Galluzzi expected the new Associate of Arts program in liberal arts to draw most of the additional students.

Kansas University Chancellor Laurence Chalmers’ salary in the budget for the next fiscal year was the same amount as the current year. Other KU administrators were getting raises ranging from $900 to $2,500. At an April meeting with the board of regents, Chalmers had said that his pay was more than adequate, and that he saw no reason why the chancellor had to be the highest paid figure at the university.

With the perspective gained by the passage of two months’ time, Lawrence police and city officials were quoted as saying that they would do many things differently if the city were ever faced with another emergency situation and curfew, as they had been in April.
