Board OKs closure of East Heights

Lawrence school board members Monday night unanimously approved the closure of the East Heights Early Childhood Family Center building. Earlier this year the board began making efforts to move the childhood programs and their students to Kennedy School, in an effort to save the district $251,252.

The district made numerous cuts to accommodate reduced state funding to the district.

The East Heights building may not sit empty for long. The Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence is in discussions with the district to lease the building.

They hope to move in next month.

No plans have been finalized for a move.
