Noted Oral Historian to speak at KU

? An oral historian will be at the University of Kansas next week to discuss the challenges of the field.

Maggie Rivas-Rodriguez is the director of the U.S. Latino and Latina World War II Oral History Project. The effort includes interviews with more than 700 men and women throughout the country.

The university says Rivas-Rodriguez will present “Oral History to Understand Our Present” at 7:30 p.m. on June 18 in the Hall Center for the Humanities. The lecture is free and open to the public, with a reception and book signing to follow.

Rivas-Rodriguez is an associate professor of journalism at the University of Texas-Austin. She also has worked for news outlets including The Boston Globe, WFAA-TV in Dallas and The Dallas Morning News.
