Hearing for former Westar executives slated for Thursday

? A hearing is scheduled Tuesday for two former Westar Energy Inc. executives accused of conspiring to loot the Kansas utility.

Former Westar CEO David Wittig and his top former strategy officer, Douglas Lake, are charged with conspiracy and several counts of circumventing internal controls to hide their actions.

Tuesday’s hearing at federal court in Topeka is expected to focus on whether prosecutors should hand over 60,000 pages of documents in the case.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that lawyers for Wittig and Lake are seeking disclosure of records they say federal prosecutors are withholding.

The two men’s first trial ended in a hung jury and a conviction in their second trial was overturned. Their third trial is scheduled to start Sept. 20.
