Cactus season ends

? The Lawrence Cactus’ youth baseball season ended with two losses Sunday in the Hap Dumont NBC 18U World Series.

The Cactus were shut out for the first time this season in a 5-0 setback to Play Ball Sports in the winners’ bracket semifinal, then fell, 3-2, to the Butler County Cubs.

“The young man from Play Ball Sports did a great job of working the ball away from us and changing speeds,” Lawrence coach Wilson Kilmer said. “We had him on the ropes a time or two, but we hit the ball right at them in those situations.”

Adam Petz had two of Lawrence’s five hits.

The Cactus managed just six hits in the loss to the Cubs.

Petz again was 2-for-3, with a run and an RBI.

“This has been a very good team and a fun team to coach,” Wilson Kilmer said. “I really enjoyed this group of young men and their families.”

The Cactus ended their season with a 21-11 record.
