After more than a 100 years of success, don’t expect anything different from this year’s Eudora CPA Picnic, organizer Jerry Trober said.

Trober, who has organized the event for 22 years, predicts that between 5,000 and 7,000 people will partake in the three days of festivities.

The event kicks off Thursday with carnival rides starting at 6 p.m. in CPA Park, 8th and Main streets.

On Friday, the Children’s Parade will start at 7 p.m. Between 30 to 40 entrants are expected to march down Main Street. Registration begins at 6:15 p.m. at City Park, which sits across from City Hall at 7th and Main streets. No motorized vehicles are allowed in the parade.

Following the parade will be the picnic, which includes carnival rides and the Holy Family Catholic food booth at CPA Park.

On Saturday, the Grand Parade starts at 7 p.m. Registration begins at 6 p.m. in the parking lot in Laws Stadium. The parade, which should have between 50 to 70 entrants, will head west from Laws Stadium and then turn north to finish on Main Street.

Carnival rides and the Holy Family Catholic food booth will also be at the picnic following the parade on Saturday.

CPA stands for Cattleman’s Protective Association. The annual event began as a picnic to honor members of a group that protected Eudora from cattle rustlers and horse thieves in the late 1800s.
