Brake maker closing plant in SE Kansas

? About 160 jobs will be lost in southeast Kansas when a factory that makes parts for commercial vehicle brakes is closed later this year.

Haldex Brake in Iola is a division of Sweden-based Haldex Commercial Vehicle Systems. The Iola plant has been in operation since 1973.

The Iola Register reported Friday the company plans to close the plant by the end of the year and move its operations to another Haldex plant in Monterrey, Mexico. The production of brake cylinders was moved from Iola to Monterrey in 2007.

At one time, the Kansas plant had more than 400 employees.
