Kansas University Hospital has been ranked in the 2010 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals list in six categories.

Its ear, nose and throat program ranked 29th out of the 50 that were ranked; pulmonology ranked 30th; kidney disorders ranked 32nd; heart and heart surgery ranked 37th; urology ranked 43rd; and geriatrics ranked 47th.

The hospital had three programs listed a year ago and one in 2008.

All three of the previously ranked programs — ear, nose and throat; heart and heart surgery; and kidney disorders — all moved up in the rankings.

Bob Page, president and CEO of KU Hospital, said the rankings were a tribute to the work of the doctors and nurses who work in the various programs.

“Our focus is on service and quality for every patient that comes across our threshold,” he said.

KU Hospital was the only hospital in Kansas and in the Kansas City area to make any of the “Best Hospital” lists.

The hospital, in Kansas City, Kan., has 583 staffed beds and serves more than 24,000 inpatients each year.
