40 years ago: Board of Regents adopts new regulations

The Kansas Board of Regents adopted regulations of conduct for students, faculty members and employees at the six regents’ institutions. The new regulations would prohibit acts which threaten persons, property or the normal activities of the institutions. Specifically, conduct was not to obstruct teaching, learning or research; deny access to buildings; threaten damage to property or persons; or break the rules of the university. Additionally, the regulations specified that no use of profane or vulgar language was to be permitted and people were not to conduct themselves in a “rude and challenging behavior” in any of the institutions’ properties, including residence halls, fraternity and sorority houses.

Kansas was expected to have bumper crops of wheat, corn and sugar beets in 1970, according to the Kansas Crop and Livestock Reporting Service. The estimated wheat harvest would be the sixth largest in the state.
