Larry King, wife withdraw divorce filings

Los Angeles — Larry King’s television reign may be ending, but his eighth marriage will go on.

Court records in Los Angeles showed King and his wife each filed Wednesday to end competing divorce petitions and that the cases have been dismissed.

The move comes nearly three months after the host of CNN’s “Larry King Live” filed to end his nearly 13-year marriage to his seventh wife, Shawn.

She also sought to end the marriage, but the couple soon reconciled.

King announced his retirement last month. He cited the desire to spend more time with his wife and two young sons as one of the benefits of ending his show after 25 years.

Goldberg to bring ‘Sister Act’ to Broadway

New York — This coming season Broadway will see a nun on the run as “Sister Act” makes its way across the pond.

After enjoying record-breaking success in London, producer Whoopi Goldberg brings the divine musical comedy to the New York stage in the spring of 2011.

Based on the hit movie, “Sister Act” features a new score by eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken. His credits include “The Little Mermaid,” and “Beauty and the Beast.”

Goldberg starred in the movie version and will appear with the London cast for a limited run beginning Aug. 10.

No theater or casting has been announced for Broadway. The show’s publicist isn’t commenting on whether Goldberg will appear in the Broadway version.

Gibson focus of domestic violence inquiry

Los Angeles — Mel Gibson was named Thursday as a potential suspect in a domestic violence investigation involving his ex-girlfriend, Russian singer Oksana Grigorieva, earlier this year, sheriff’s officials said.

The disclosure came after detectives interviewed Grigorieva about the alleged attack at an undisclosed location in Malibu.

Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said Grigorieva was the only person interviewed so far in the case.

Gibson and Grigorieva have been involved in a nasty custody dispute over their infant daughter — the subject of a confidential court case.

Whitmore declined to disclose further details of the domestic violence investigation or any potential evidence.

“We’re in the process of verifying, verifying, verifying,” Whitmore said. “All the allegations that have been put forth will be thoroughly investigated.”

Memorable year for ‘Glee’ actor Colfer

Los Angeles — Last year, Chris Colfer was a small-town teenage community theater actor auditioning for the part of a wheelchair-bound high-school student in some new show called “Glee.” He didn’t get that part.

But on Thursday, the kid from Clovis, Calif., received an Emmy nomination for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series for his portrayal of Kurt Hummel, a gay high school student.

“I’m so sorry,” he said in a phone interview Thursday morning. “I just have no words. Oh, my. But at the same time, a bunch of things are going through my head. So many things! I’m kind of in shock.”

In fact, it was Colfer’s audition that inspired the show’s creator Ryan Murphy to add the Hummel character to the list of characters.

“He had just walked in off a bus from Clovis,” Murphy said. “His talent was so special that we wrote that part for him. So it’s great to see how far it’s taken him.”

Snoop Dogg seeks British soap cameo

London — Hip hop star Snoop Dogg has revealed he’s a fan of British soap opera “Coronation Street,” and wants a cameo on the gritty show.

Snoop told fans in Manchester, England, on Thursday that he has been watching “Corrie” for 11 years and had asked his agent to see whether he can make an appearance. He said producers “said they were interested so hopefully it might happen.”

Miss USA: ‘I fear no question’

Detroit — Rima Fakih said she’s learned to fear no question since competing for — and becoming — Miss USA.

That includes questions asked during the May contest in Las Vegas in which the 24-year-old Miss Michigan from the Detroit suburb of Dearborn took the national crown. But it also includes the media interrogation that began afterward, when photos emerged of her pole-dancing in skimpy shorts and a tank top at a Detroit radio show promotional event in 2007.

“Once you’re successful, everyone’s going to feed on that success,” Fakih told The Associated Press on Thursday between events honoring her at Detroit Medical Center, where she’s on leave from her job as a marketing representative.

“I’ve learned to be so proud of who I am to the point where I fear no question,” she said. “I have no problem because I know who I am and I feel like it’s for the world to either accept it and if not, that’s fine.”
