LAGA City Tournament: The Lawrence Amateur Golf Association’s City Tournament will be contested Saturday at Eagle Bend and Sunday at Alvamar Public. Any golfer who lives or works in Douglas County or plays in a local league or is a member of the city’s two country clubs is eligible to compete. Registration is at Golf USA (832-9009) at 33rd and Iowa. Entry fee of $25, plus greens fees and (optional) cart fees charged by the courses. There are four divisions: Open, Women, Senior, Super Senior. Prizes awarded to top golfers in each flight. Registration deadline today.

Junge Hole In One: Jack Junge used a 9-iron to ace the 105-yard No. 6 hole at The Orchards on July 6. Witnesses were Coleman Houk, Trip Wright and Jack Flynn.

Stultz Hole In One: Mike Stultz used a 5-iron July 2 to ace the 165-yard No. 7 hole at Lawrence Country Club. Witnesses were Gary Olson, Greg Sharp, Craig Starks and Mike Douglas.

Wynne Wins Again: Wynne Mihura of Lawrence followed up her June 19 first-place finish in the champion class of the Topeka Horseshoe Tournament with a first-place finish in the champion class of the Ottawa Horseshoe Tournament on July 4.

Youth Football Camp: A football camp for youths entering the second through sixth grades will be held July 22-24. Cagers Basketball: Kansas Cagers Basketball Team is looking for ninth- and 10th-grade boys (2010-2011 school year) who are interested in playing competitive basketball in the Lawrence and Kansas City areas. Practices are held most Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Tonganoxie Middle School Gym, 824 Washington Street, Tonganoxie. South Football Camp: South Junior High’s football camp will run 8-noon July 19-21 at Haskell Indian Nations University. Softball tryouts: Lawrence Phenix Fastpitch will be holding tryouts for the upcoming 2010/2011 season. Tryouts are August 7th (rainout date — August 8th) at Holcom Park. Burger runs endurance race: Greg Burger, of Lecompton, finished the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run in 28 hours, 57 minutes, 3 seconds. The race started in Squaw Valley, Calif., and ended in Auburn, Calif. Burger was the only Kansan to finish the race this year.

Gebhards, Conrad leaders: Randy Gebhards shot a 68 to finish first in the net results of the Jayhawk Golf Club on Saturday at Alavamar Public Golf Club. Tony Compton finished second with a 70, Curt Anderson was third with 71, and Casey Old was fourth with a 72. In scratch results, Conrad Roberts led with a 68. Les Brown was second with a 71, Kent Beisner third with 76 and William Gantz fourth with 77.
