• The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce will have an informational meeting for those interested in applying for the 2011 Leadership Lawrence program. The meeting will be from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. July 12 at the school district office, 110 McDonald Drive. Forms will be available at the meeting or may be downloaded from the chamber’s website at lawrencechamber.com. Forms must be returned by 5 p.m. Aug. 5 to the chamber’s office, 734 Vt., Suite 101.

• Ted Maguire, regional director with MFS Investments, will present “Roadmap to Retirement: 12 IRA Planning Mistakes to Avoid,” from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Alvamar Country Club. • The Oread hotel garnered architecture firm NSPJ Architects three of the 2010 KC Magazine and Commercial Journal’s Design Excellence accolades: the Silver Award for Interior Design (traditional); the Bronze Award for Architecture (exterior); and another Silver Award for Architecture (traditional). The honors were picked up by Tim Homburg, the lead architect for NSPJ Architects and chief architect for The Oread.

• la Bella Vita Hair Studio, 719 Mass., Suite 110, opened June 1. The studio is owned by master stylist Kristie L. Wilson.

• The Kansas Chamber PAC has released its endorsements for the 2010 elections to the Kansas Legislature. Kansas House of Representatives: Anthony R. Brown, 38th District, Eudora; Connie O’Brien, 42nd District, Tonganoxie; and Terri Lois Gregory, 10th District, Baldwin City.

• The Kansas Department of Health and Environment announces the department has certified 60 water treatment operators and 50 wastewater treatment operators from January to June 2010.

Area certified water operators include Gary Bennett, Leavenworth County Rural Water District No. 10, Linwood, small system; Robert Bryant, City of Linwood, class 1; and Brian Neiberger, Kansas Turnpike Authority, Lawrence, small system; Ryan Rubow, City of Lawrence, class 2; and Ronald Haynes Wyatt, City of Bonner Springs, class 4.

Area certified wastewater operators include: Terrance Allen and Lance Baumann, City of Lawrence, class 2.
