Busing expense

To the editor:

Less than five years ago, New York School was upgraded at substantial cost to the taxpayers. This project included renovation of the mechanical and electrical systems, a new gym, kitchen, storage area and rest rooms. This information is available online.

New York is now one of the schools being considered for closure. Not only would that be a waste of taxpayer money spent for improvements to the school, but it would put children on buses, which would lengthen their day. These children are very young and they should not be forced to ride school buses to get to their school.

The school district is concerned over children not getting enough exercise. Leave the neighborhood schools in place and let the children get their exercise walking to school.

Any savings seen in closing a school would probably disappear in additional transportation costs. Busing is expensive.
