Topeka ? Kansans who believe the federal government is grabbing too much power away from the states want their legislators to lodge an official protest.

The Kansas Sovereignty Coalition is pushing a resolution in the Kansas Senate criticizing Congress and presidential administrations past and present. The resolution demands that the federal government stop violating the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

The 10th Amendment says that powers not specifically delegated to the federal government are reserved for the states. The resolution says many federal laws and congressional proposals violate the amendment, though it doesn’t list examples.

The Senate Judiciary Committee was having a hearing Friday on the measure, which is sponsored by 24 Republicans, led by Mary Pilcher Cook, of Shawnee. The coalition was planning a rally afterward.
