U.S. Rep. Dennis Moore announces students he has nominated to attend military service academies. In the spring, academies will notify selected students chosen to become a part of the class of 2014.

Area nominees are: Nicholas Barkley, Baldwin City, U.S. Air Force Academy; Jacob Barren, Bonner Springs, U.S. Naval Academy; and Pamina Buechner, Lawrence, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy.

Army Pvt. Derek A. Lasiter has graduated from the Field Artillery Firefinder Radar Operator Advanced Individual Training (AIT) course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

The private is the son of Cynthia Lasiter, Lawrence.

Army Pvt. Richard J. Christenson has graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training consists of Basic Infantry Training and Advanced Individual Training.

The private is the son of Susannah Christenson, Lawrence.
