Stabbing victim in fair condition; Lawrence police seek public’s help in finding suspect

A 24-year-old Lawrence man was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital early Tuesday morning after being stabbed.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Michael McLaren, police were dispatched about 3:10 a.m. to the 1300 block of New Hampshire Street.

McLaren said the victim had gotten into an argument with an acquaintance at a residence in the area. The acquaintance, who is the suspect in the incident, stabbed the victim in the chest.

The victim was taken to LMH, where his condition was not immediately available Tuesday afternoon. McLaren said his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

The suspect fled before officers arrived. Police said the suspect was described as a Native American man in his mid-40s, standing 6-foot-1, weighing 250 pounds, with medium-length brown hair and no facial hair.

Officers received varying descriptions of the suspect’s clothing. He was said to be wearing either a camouflage-pattern jump suit or a blue jacket with black jeans.
