Topeka ? The superintendent of the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site in Topeka is resigning this week to return to a job with a related organization.

Cheryl Brown Henderson said Tuesday that she will resign from the historic site Friday. She plans to rejoin the Brown Foundation for Educational Equity, Excellence and Research, beginning Monday.

Brown Henderson’s work at the foundation will include recording the memories of people from across the country who were part of the Brown v. Board of Education case. That case overturned the separate but equal doctrine in public schools.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that a series of acting superintendents will be assigned to the historic site until a permanent replacement can be selected.
