An early-morning fire destroyed a detached garage in Lecompton, said Sgt. Steve Lewis, a Douglas County Sheriff’s spokesman.

Lewis said the fire started just after 3 a.m. at 705 Whitfield St. The fire caused an estimated $18,000 in damage making the garage and a shop a total loss, he said.

But it did not damage any other buildings on the residential property, Lewis said.

Lecompton Fire/EMS and crews from other townships responded. Fire investigators were still trying to determine the blaze’s cause Thursday morning, but no one was injured, Lewis said.

Lot's of fires out in the NW part of the County; at least 4 during the past several weeks, including Lecompton and Big Springs. Can't blame it on the Tonganoxie split. Best of luck to all!

Losing a workshop is horrible, at least no one was injured in there. Best of luck.
