Topeka ? Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson and the Oklahoma-based Wyandotte Nation have agreed on a compact allowing the tribe to upgrade its casino in downtown Kansas City, Kan.

Parkinson’s office announced the agreement Friday. It must be approved by the Kansas Legislature, which reconvenes in January.

The agreement would permit the Wyandotte Nation to switch its gambling equipment to slot machines from machines that operate like bingo games. Both sides agreed that the casino would not add table games such as blackjack.

The casino opened in 2008 after a legal battle between the state and Wyandotte Nation. Parkinson said his administration and the tribe have been negotiating a compact since August.

The tribe also hopes to build a casino north of Wichita, but the state opposes those efforts.
