Leavenworth man dies weeks after November hit-and-run accident

? A Leavenworth man has died a month after he was injured by a hit-and-run driver in a crash that also killed his wife.

Leavenworth police deputy chief Robert Smith says 62-year-old Lewis E. McMillen died Saturday at a hospice house in Kansas City, Mo.

McMillen and his wife, Teresa, were injured in a Nov. 20 crash as they walked home. Teresa McMillen died that morning.

The alleged driver, 39-year-old Millard E. Wilkens, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and aggravated battery.

Deda Williams, liaison with the Leavenworth County Attorney’s office, says prosecutors will wait for an autopsy report before deciding whether to file more charges.

The Leavenworth Times reports that Wilkens is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on Monday.
