Three Bolivar, Mo., men arrested in Saturday evening robbery

Three men from Bolivar, Mo., were arrested and booked into Douglas County Jail on Saturday evening on charges of aggravated robbery, burglary, theft and criminal damage to property.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Dave Hubbel, an employee at the Grove Apartments, 4301 W. 24th Place, heard breaking glass about 5:30 p.m. According to the employee, three men dressed in black climbed through a window into an apartment. A few minutes later, they crawled back out carrying bags, a laptop and what the witness thought was a gun.

Hubbel said the men left the scene in a black Toyota Scion. Police arrived at the scene a few minutes later, and the employee gave them a description of the vehicle. A few minutes after police arrived, the victims of the robbery arrived home. Hubbel said police gave the residents a description of the vehicle and learned that a vehicle matching that description belonged to someone who used to live above the apartment that was robbed.

A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper at Baldwin Junction saw a vehicle matching the description of the one in the robbery and followed it until he could get backup because the witness reported seeing one of the individuals with a gun. Hubbel said officers pulled over the vehicle in Overbrook and arrested its occupants. Two of the men arrested were 21 years old, while the other was 19.

A pellet gun was found inside.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned in Douglas County District Court on Monday.
