The regular meeting of the Douglas County 4-H Horse project was held Nov. 16 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Leaders encouraged members to think of ideas for the Spring Clinic. Some suggestions were to learn about English Equitation and Jumping. The club voted to donate to the 4-H Foundation. The club celebrated achievements for 2010; three members earned the gold award. The next open ride is Dec. 21 and the next business meeting, on Jan. 18, will be led by junior officers.

The Stull Busy Beavers 4-H club met Nov. 8 at the Stull United Methodist Church Faith and Friendship Center. It was parents night, so the parents filled in the roles of club officers and provided the program. Roll call was answered by whether you preferred stuffing or mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving dinner. Sign-up for working the concession stand at the Ross Wulfkuhle auction for Nov. 20 was passed around. The club decided to adopt four ‘grandparents’ from the Douglas County Senior Center for a Christmas community service project. The club also voted to go Christmas caroling at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor on Friday. During the program, Mike O’Connor displayed parts of a rocket; Mike Leming explained how to properly wash your beef cattle prior to showing; Bryce and Gina Schumann demonstrated how to polish leather boots; and Vickie Clark demonstrated through parliamentary procedure how to make snack mix by using motions. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Stull UMC F&FC. Families are to bring their favorite snack for refreshments and members are to bring a $3 or under gift for an exchange.
