100 years ago: Jayhawks looking to solve coaching problem

From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 7, 1910:

  • “The Athletic Board is as ignorant of the ultimate solution of the Jayhawker coaching problem as is the youngest freshman on the hill. As the coach will necessarily be a member of the faculty he can only be chosen by the regents upon recommendation of the chancellor. Unless it should be consulted in an advisory way the Athletic Board will have no information on the identity of the 1911 coach until his selection is publicly announced.”
  • “There will be several Santa Clauses in Lawrence this year. A half dozen organizations are planning to distribute good cheer among the worthy unfortunate of the city on Christmas eve. In addition to this organized effort, the churches and private individuals will, as usual, remember many families in whose midst the year has not left their share of hope and comfort.”
