Douglas County mental illness alliance plans event to raise awareness

The Douglas County chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, or NAMI, is sponsoring a presentation intended to raise awareness about mental illness in the African-American community.

The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. Dec. 12 at First Regular Missionary Baptist Church, 1646 Vt.

The one-hour presentation is part of the church’s program, “A Day of Deliverance and Restoration for Mental Health.” NAMI’s program will feature speakers who will share their personal stories of dealing with mental illness.
