The Lawrence Free Community Christmas Day Dinner is in need of volunteers to help prepare, serve and deliver a community meal where all are welcome. The meal will take place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Christmas Day at First United Methodist Church, 10th and Vermont streets. Volunteers are asked to come to the church anytime between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m., ready to be assigned to a variety of tasks. If you have any questions, please call Brower Burchill at 843-9199.

Immediate needs

• Lawrence Memorial Hospital is in need of “Wayfinder” volunteers. Wayfinders are always on the move, greeting hospital visitors and assisting them to their destinations within the hospital. • The Douglas County Medical Reserve Corps is in search of a volunteer social media specialist. A volunteer who is well-versed in the use of social media outlets such as Facebook and LinkedIn is needed to assist with monitoring, posting, and content development. The social media specialist will work as part of a social media team to plan, implement, study and otherwise advance the social media strategy of Douglas County Medical Reserve Corps. • The Grassland Heritage Foundation is in search of “Groundhog” volunteers to help maintain the Rachel Snyder Prairie near Mayetta. Groundhogs volunteer at the Snyder Prairie the third Saturday of every month by completing various tasks needed to maintain and restore the prairie. Volunteers do not need previous experience and will be given necessary information needed to conduct the work appropriately. If interested, contact Frank Norman at 785-691-9748

• Trinity In-Home Care is in need of volunteers who would like to join its Friendly Visitor program, which matches volunteers and individuals with similar interests for an optimal companionship experience. Generally, the program is designed to provide one or two hours a week of companionship to any individual, 18 years of age or older. Volunteers must pass a background check.
