From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 6, 1985:

• For local singles looking for dates but not wanting to hang around in bars, a new “high-tech” solution was available. Jan Mocklebust and Dean McCall had opened “New Connections Video” in a small office near 24th and Iowa, and they said business was booming. The business owners had actually met through video dating and were planning to wed in the spring. They claimed over 100 weddings to their credit since they had opened their Kansas City video-dating office in May of 1981.
• Two projects were up for consideration by the Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission. First, a 13-building complex of 148 “luxury” student apartments was proposed for a site between 14th and 15th streets and Apple Lane and Kasold Drive. The site was then owned by Dillon’s Food Stores and had once been under consideration for a grocery store, but the company had since decided to build a “superstore” on West Sixth Street. The second project being discussed for that area was an expansion of Presbyterian manor which would increase the facility’s size from 65,000 to 103,000 square feet.
