Lawrence Police responded to two separate burglary incidents in the 1100 block of Louisiana Street late Friday night and early Saturday morning, resulting in the arrests of five people.

Sgt. Craig Shanks said police were dispatched to the first incident — in which four people were arrested — around 11:50 p.m. A victim called police after hearing someone inside their apartment. Three of the suspects were arrested near the apartment, while another suspect was arrested after falling through an attic and landing in another apartment in the same complex.

All four suspects — two 20-year-old females, a 20-year-old male, and a 21-year-old male — were booked into the Douglas County Jail on charges of aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery. The four were listed as Lawrence residents.

Police responded to the second incident around 3:15 a.m., after residents of an apartment in the 1100 block of Louisiana Street arrived home to find someone leaving their apartment with property, Shanks said. A 21-year-old Topeka man was arrested shortly thereafter and booked into the Douglas County Jail on charges of aggravated burglary and theft.

Apartments in the 1100 block of Louisiana were also the site of a Dec. 2 armed robbery. Three females reported that two men, one with a gun, broke into their third-floor apartment at 12:30 a.m., stealing a cell phone and a T.V. Police described the suspects as two black males of college-age and average stature. No arrests have been reported or announced in that case.
