Club news for Dec. 4

University Bridge Club bridge announces results of its Nov. 27 meeting with hosts Steven Bogler and John and Jane Golden.

Blue winners: Lois Liebert, first; Bebe Huxtable, second; John Stark, third; Al Smith, fourth; and Tom Waller, fifth.

Pink winners: Cathy Waller, first; Willi Stark, second; Joan VanNice, third; Jo Anne Hicks, fourth; and Virginia Williams, fifth.

The Betty Washington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met Nov. 20 at the American Legion Post No. 14, 3408 W. Sixth St. After the DAR ritual and flag salute, Melodee Wallace introduced guests. The president general’s message and National Defender was read. Officers and committee reports were given. Janet Kaskl is a new member and two more applications will be submitted. The re-dedication of Real Daughter Lucy Estabrook will be in March 2011. Shari Johnson talked about veterans bingo on Dec. 10 in Leavenworth. Those interested in participating may contact Johnson.

Charlie Bryan, community health planner at Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department, gave a program about emergency preparedness. The next meeting will be at 10 a.m. Dec. 18 at the American Legion. Members went to Abilene Nov. 21 to view the quilt the chapter made for the Quilts of Valor Challenge at the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum in Abilene.
