25 years ago: A sampling of movies and dinner specials in Lawrence

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 3, 1985:

  • Twenty-five Douglas County properties, carrying a total of more than $72,000 in unpaid taxes, were scheduled to be auctioned off during a sheriff’s sale in early January. Sixteen of the tracts were in the Four Seasons addition and three were in East Lawrence. Additional properties in Eudora and Baldwin were also on the list.
  • Movies playing in Lawrence this week included “Young Sherlock Holmes,” “Rocky IV,” “Santa Claus: The Movie,” “Jagged Edge,” and “King Solomon’s Mines.” The Lawrence Community Theatre was revving up for their production of “The Lion in Winter.” The Sanctuary (“Reciprocal With Over 300 Clubs!”) was offering a special on a half-pound burger with fries for $2.85; Pizza Shoppe at 6th and Kasold was offering their King-Size Pizza and a 32-oz Pepsi for $7.95 (with free extra mozzarella if you mentioned that it was the Monday Night Football special); and Drake’s Snack Shop, 907 Mass, announced that the “Little Dragon” vendor was now open for business, offering “budget Oriental cuisine” in addition to the usual Drake’s home-cooked breakfast and lunch items.
