Fort Leavenworth ? The Army’s School for Advanced Military Studies is graduating 27 officers this week from its Advanced Military Studies Program at Fort Leavenworth.

The program is a one-year course of study in military arts and sciences, focusing on planning, preparing and executing military operations. Part of the emphasis is using all elements of government in carrying out the operations.

Speaking at Thursday’s graduation ceremony will be Lt. Gen. Guy Swan, commander of the U.S. Army North.

Upon graduation, the officers will take staff positions in headquarters at two-, three- and four-star general officer levels. Three of the students graduated Nov. 1 and are deploying to Afghanistan to work with the International Security Assistance Joint Command Headquarters.
