Shoreline Shuffle 5K: The Lawrence Trail Hawks will host the second Shoreline Shuffle 5k Trail Run on Sept. 25 on Clinton Lake’s North Shore Trails. The race begins and ends at Shelter 4, Campground One, in Clinton Lake State Park. The marked course includes difficult rocky, root-bound trails; smooth, flat, easy trails; scenic lake views; and long shady stretches through old-growth forest. The race begins at 8 a.m., with race-day registration and check-in starting at 7 a.m. The race entry form and online registration are both available at www.Lawrencetrailhawks.com. Head for the Cure 5K Looms: The second-annual Lawrence Head for the Cure 5k will be at 8 a.m. September 26th at the YSI fields near the South Lawrence Trafficway. Jayhawk Juniors Volleyball: Kansas University will be hosting youth volleyball clinics this fall. Clinics for girls in grades K-6 will run Sundays from Sept. 12-Oct. 17 and for grades 7-8 from Oct. 3-Nov. 7. A clinic for boys in grades 3-12 will run Thursdays from Sept. 16-Oct. 21. KU Baseball Camps: Kansas University will hold several youth baseball camps this fall. Fall Hitting Academies, for ages 8-18, will be held Sept. 8, 15, 22, 29 (session one); Oct. 6, 13, 20, 27 (session two) and Nov. 1, 16, 22, 29 (session three). The Jayhawk Fall Games Camp, for grades 9-12, will run Sept. 12, 19, 26 and Oct. 10. The Jayhawk Baseball Youth Fall Games Camp, for ages 10-12, will run Sept. 20, 27, Oct. 4 and 11. New Swimmer Clinic: The Lawrence Aquahawks Swim Club will be offering a New Swimmer Clinic on Sept. 8 at the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center. The clinic will begin at 7 pm and is open to anyone ages 6-18 who would like to swim on a year-round swim team. The Aquahawks offer several levels of swimming abilities and competition opportunities. Jayhawk Golf Club Results: Kent Beisner shot a 67 to win the net portion of the Jayhawk Golf Club’s event Sunday at Alvamar. He was followed by Bud Stagg (67), Casey Old (69) and William Patt (72). Conrad Roberts won scratch with a 68 and was followed by Chad Roesler (70), Tyler Cummins (74) and Tony Compton (76).

Horseshoe winners: Wynne Mihura of Lawrence, along with partner Harlen May of Olathe, won first place in the doubles competition of the VFW Horseshoe Tournament on Aug. 21 in Bonner Springs. Burl Cox from Norman, Okla., tied for second place in the singles division of his class.

Glen Goodwin Hole in One: Glen Goodwin carded a hole-in-one on the No. 8 hole at Alvamar Country Club. He used an 8-iron for the ace on the 138-yard hole. It was witnessed by Linda Goodwin, Dan and Carolyn Harden.

Cheer/Dance Clinic: The Free State Kiddie Clinic for Cheerleading and Dance will be 1-3 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Free State High gym. Taught by current Free State cheer and dance team members, the clinic is for youths in preschool through sixth-grade.
