Kansas insurance commissioner encourages students to get coverage

? Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger is advising college students and their parents to think about auto and renters’ coverage before classes start.

Praeger says students should consider taking out renters’ insurance. She said students often wrongly assume that an apartment complex’s policy will protect their personal belongings.

She says students should also check whether their auto insurance cover personal belongings kept in vehicles.

Also, Praeger says, students and their parents should check to see whether a move away from home will change auto insurance rates.

The insurance commissioner says companies give discounts for students who get good grades.
