Kan. county, 27 cities share $9.2M in grants

? A southeast Kansas county and 27 rural communities will share $9.2 million in federal grants for infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges and sewers.

The Community Development Block Grants were announced Wednesday by the state Department of Commerce.

Labette County is getting the largest amount, totaling $524,000. The county will use about $500,000 for a road repair project, with the rest going toward a storm warning system for one of its townships.

The cities of Alta Vista, Lincoln and Plainville are getting $500,000 each for water projects. The cities of Chetopa and Yates Center are getting $500,000 each for sewer projects.

And Onaga and Osawatomie have been awarded $500,000 each for street repairs.
