Lawrence softball splits with O-East

Lawrence’s Jamie Morgison slides into home for a run against Olathe East.

The Lawrence High softball team split a pair of games against Olathe East on Thursday at LHS.

The Lions lost, 10-1, in Game 1 and rebounded to win, 2-1, in Game 2.

“That’s one of the best softball teams in the state,” LHS coach Reenie Stogsdill said of O-East. “It was great just to come back after taking a beating and play the way we played.”

So what was the difference in the two games?

“I think it helps that we scored early,” Stogsdill said of taking a 1-0 lead after the first inning in Game 2. “We were ahead and they started believing in themselves. I think it shows how we can play.”

Lauren Massey earned the victory in the second game for the Lions. Massey escaped a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the sixth inning. She walked in a run, but didn’t allow a run to cross home after that.

Lawrence (6-12) will travel to Free State on Thursday for a single game.
